When people ask me what I do, I often struggle to form a coherent and brief enough answer. The phrases “I’m in sales” or “I work at this Finnish startup Vainu” just don’t seem to cut it. What I’d love to do is give an in-depth presentation, introduce all the team members and present the newest features in the software. Apologies to all my friends whose dinner parties and afternoon coffee table discussions I’ve hijacked.
“We were all hungry for success and armed with puppy-like excitement."
Exactly one year ago, I started my journey with three fellow Vainu newbies. The feelings in the face of this leap into the unknown ranged from pure thrill to utter dread. We were all hungry for success and armed with puppy-like excitement, but none of us had the slightest clue about how the future would unfold, neither for us as individuals nor for Vainu as a company. After only three weeks of working together we had quickly grown into a tight-knit team striving for a common goal.
“Starting from March, we will be launching operations and setting up office in Amsterdam."
365 days later, I’m equally or perhaps even more excited than I was back then. Starting from March, we will be launching operations and setting up office in Amsterdam – A venture I will have the privilege of being a part of. It goes without saying that a lot of effort has been put into bringing us to the point where we are now: expanding the business to new international markets once again.
We owe a lot of our success and rapid growth to our customers, who have had faith in us from the start, but it’s also hard not to gush over Vainu as a team when looking back at the past year. The Vainu family has grown to a group of 31 skilled, hard-working and motivated professionals that share the same passion. As we continue to expand, we will be looking to add more hands on deck in all our office locations.
“I started in a business development role with limited previous exposure to sales, only to find myself leading a team some months later."
Personally, this has been the fastest-moving and most captivating roller coaster ride I could ever have imagined to be on. I started in a business development role with limited previous exposure to sales, only to find myself leading a team some months later. The amount of experience and knowledge I’ve gained in between is unimaginable.
“Paving the way for a sales revolution outside our home field won’t be smooth sailing."
Now I get to add an international perspective to the ride, as I jump aboard the Amsterdam team. Paving the way for a sales revolution outside our home field won’t be smooth sailing, but we have a hungry team, an innovative product and heaps of motivation. As I sit here and browse through ads for office space in the Venice of the North, I cannot wait to see what is in store for Vainu in our conquest of Europe. This is in no way the last stop on our journey, only a new chapter.
